Dysport

Dysport® is a cosmetic form of botulinum toxin and a popular, FDA approved injection treatment for moderate to severe lines between the eyebrows. Botulinum toxin injections work by treating the muscles that create facial lines and wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the forehead muscles. Dysport, distributed by Medicis, is not interchangeable with Botox.

When is Dysport the Right Choice?

You might consider Dysport if you are under 65 years old, are dissatisfied with your facial wrinkles and lines, and want to achieve a younger appearance. Among the symptoms that are treatable with Dysport injections are the following:

  • Glabellar lines
  • Crow's Feet
  • Forehead lines

Dysport is also used therapeutically to treat muscle spasms and cervical dystonia. If you suffer from these symptoms, please consult with Dr. Bourhill to find out if Dysport can benefit you. Be sure to inform your surgeon if you have a known hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin preparation, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you are allergic to cowâ??s milk protein.

How Dysport Works

After the skin is cleansed with antiseptic and the injection sites are marked, a topical anesthetic or numbing cream may be used to help ease any pain.

Your surgeon will then administer the injection, placing the toxin into the muscles where it will block the chemical signals being sent from the nerves to the muscles. Larger muscles require higher doses. Treatment time for the procedure is estimated at about 15 minutes.

Afterward

There is no downtime involved with Dysport injection. You should remain upright for six hours and avoid alcohol following the procedure. Results will begin to take effect within four to eight days and should last about four to six months.

Common side effects include swelling, pain at the injection site, bruising, headache and nausea. If any of your symptoms worsen, or if you notice any unusual symptoms, please seek help immediately.
